Movement on the Ground

Mobile movement

It all started with a hackathon, which we organize every two months. At one of those hackathons, our team created an app for Movement on the Ground, a foundation that provides assistance to refugees who arrive daily on the beaches of Lesbos,  in just (almost) one day.

The pragmatic, no-nonsense approach of Movement on the ground appealed to us a lot and also very much matches what we stand for at Pinch. See the interview by Eva Jinek with one of the founders, Johnny de Mol. It is impressive and inspiring to hear how they immediately took action when they saw the need around them.

We have also rolled up our sleeves. The challenge of the (small) Dutch team at Movement was the communication between the organization and the volunteers who go to Lesbos to help. That communication went through all kinds of different channels and was therefore quite time-consuming.

That is why we have bundled all the information that is important for volunteers in the app and provided it with a FAQ. The volunteer can also chat with the MotG organization. The MotG team is able to easily answer everyone or send (push) messages from a central CMS.

We are proud that we have been able to make a modest contribution to the objectives of Movement on the Ground.

The app is made in Kotlin (Android) and Swift (iOS).

The Movement on the ground app is available via the App Store and Google Play
