Pinch and NRC Media, the publisher of the renowned NRC, have maintained an intensive collaboration since 2017. This collaboration began with the takeover and gradual rewriting of the existing newspaper app, a crucial product within NRC’s increasingly digitalizing portfolio.

Pinch has developed a comprehensive app for NRC Media that offers much more than just the digital version of the newspaper. Our team worked closely with NRC to deliver various functionalities, such as a newsfeed, sharing and saving articles, daily podcasts, and content personalization.

Specs

The NRC app is designed to serve tens of thousands of readers daily. It includes a newsfeed with the latest articles from the NRC editorial team, options to share and save interesting articles, and opportunities to personalize NRC content. The app also provides access to NRC’s daily podcasts.

Assignment

The assignment was to revamp the existing NRC app to create a more integrated, user-friendly experience. The goal was to serve NRC’s growing digital readership with an app that offers more than just a digital newspaper.

Process

We collaborated with the NRC team in an agile manner, iteratively adding new functionalities that would provide the most value for the app’s readers/users.

Challenge

One of the biggest challenges was integrating different types of content (articles, podcasts) into one app while ensuring that the app was easy to use and personalize.

Result

The result is a versatile, user-friendly app used daily by tens of thousands of readers. The NRC app is not only the world’s first real-time newspaper app but also an essential tool for the digital transformation of NRC Media.
